Summary

UXI Sensor 802.1x Regression

The issue has been resolved, the root cause of the regression was a change in how the sensor interprets configuration and resulted in the EAP state machine on the sensor failing to correctly proceed with 802.1x authentication. This issue was not wide spread and only affected a subset of sensors in specific environments. The regression fix was only applied to affected devices, regular firmware update cycles will resume in the comings days and not further action or intervention is needed.

How this incident unfolded

  • Investigating

    Sep 4 · 9:20 AM Cape Networks

Following the latest sensor release, 6087, some sensors testing 802.1x configured networks are failing to correctly associate with that network. It appears to be isolated specifically to EAP-TLS based networks. The release 6087 has been halted and no further sensor software updates will take place until the regression has been fully identified and corrected. More updates will follow as the investigation progresses.

  • Identified

    Sep 4 · 2:27 PM Cape Networks

The root cause of the regression has been identified, affected sensors have received a deploy which reverts the regression and a long term fix is being generated.

  • Monitoring

    Sep 4 · 4:22 PM Cape Networks

Affected devices have received a firmware release 6092 which reverts the regression introduced in firmware release 6087, 802.1x authentication on affected devices is now functioning as expected.
